Things to look out for when shopping for a crib mattress.
moisture resistant
For obvious reasons, you’ll want to find a mattress that is resistant to liquid and can be wiped down. Some are even fully waterproof.
lightweight
It’s handy to have a mattress that is easy to lift for changing bedding and wiping away messes. Some (like this one) are made of foam and/or polymer, which tend to be the lightest.
durable
Any two-stage mattresses should last into toddlerhood, but innerspring mattresses tend to be the least likely to sag after a few years. Made of coils, they are also heavier.
breathable
Some mattresses allow baby to breathe through them, to help reduce the risk of suffocation. The increased airflow also helps to prevent babies from getting sweaty.

This certification means that a mattress has been tested for toxins and confirmed that it contains little to no chemical emissions.

If you’re concerned about allergies, this means a mattress has been treated for dust mites and other microscopic bacteria.
